The good 09/10 season form of James Thompson continued last Saturday night after he picked up the honour of being the highest placed local finisher in sixth place during the third round of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship at Parramatta City Raceway (PCR).
Thompson, driving the NSW # 22 Hills Motorcycles supported Maxim, was pleased with his end result to the feature race and the fact that he was the top PCR based driver after he had started from position seven in the field.
“It was a tough night for passing and you really needed to start towards the front to be any chance of a good finish in the feature race and that’s exactly what we achieved,” expressed Thompson, who currently sits sixth in the PCR Track Championship point standings. “A sixth place feature race finish last Saturday night is pretty close to the equivalent of a win at a local show and this result keeps up the good form we’ve shown so far this season.”
One of the keys to Thompson’s starting position in the feature race was his fourth and second place finishes in the heat races after he had qualified 13th in time trials at the beginning of the night.
“Qualifying was very tight and the Top 14 were all within the 11 second bracket and you needed to be inside the Top 15 or otherwise your night was going to be tough,” Thompson said. “In my heat races I had a bit of good luck go my way and it enabled me to move forward in both of them and I then managed to qualify into the ‘Top 8’ pole shootout where I ended up seventh. The whole night played a huge part in my end result in the feature race.”
This Saturday night (December 12) the next round of the PCR Track Championship is to be fought out and Thompson is no doubt looking for a podium result and nothing less.
