Newly appointed General Manager of World Series Sprintcars (WSS), Steven Green, recently met with the executive of the Sprintcar Control Council of Australia (SCCA) and the management team of Sprintcars Australia to discuss the ways and means by which the SCCA could consider the expansion of its contribution to World Series Sprintcars. One particular topic of discussion was for a financial contribution from the SCCA toward the TV coverage of the series being produced by Power Productions and aired on channel OneHD.

“We are always conscious of the contribution that has been made and continues to be made by the SCCA through its State Associations for the running of the rounds of World Series,” said Green, “and we are most appreciative that the SCCA has fully funded the services of a chief steward for the Series again this year. But the opportunity to have the series on national free-to-air TV was vital for its awareness and the SCCA was approached for assistance in this regard.”

Following the meeting, the SCCA executive compiled an offer for World Series Sprintcars that was in turn readily accepted.

“The SCCA offered to make a sizeable financial contribution of $25 000 toward the TV coverage of World Series Sprintcars,” said SCCA President, Peter Mitchell. “It was important to secure good TV coverage of Australia’s premier national sprintcar series, just as the SCCA fully funds the TV coverage of the Australian Sprintcar Championship.”

Peter Mitchell further explained that the fine details of the accepted offer would benefit SCCA members and would meet the objectives of the SCCA as the national administrative body of sprintcar racing to encourage, control and foster the sport of sprintcar racing in Australia and to foster the recognition and esteem of the Council and individual member clubs.

Steven Green added that another important aspect of the offer was for both parties to meet before the end of March 2010 to formally draft the SCCA contribution to 2010/2011 World Series Sprintcars. This draft would then be presented at the 2010 SCCA Annual Conference in May.

Having the last word, Steven Green said, “The SCCA has shown a willingness to become a leader in proactive administration in speedway and World Series Sprintcars has taken an important step to stabilise its planning. The open lines of communication between the parties will only benefit the future of the national sprintcar series.”
