Brett Baxter, Sid Whittaker and Bert Cheatham shared the spoils at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) on Saturday night January 16, the three taking home the first place trophies in the Modified Production Sedan, Midget and Late Model Feature races respectively.
Baxter took over the front running from early race leader Aiden Raymont on lap five of the thirty lap Exide Batteries Brisbane 1000 Modified Production event, and from there he was never headed on his run to the chequers to win the night’s Feature event on the program.
Glenn Pagel finished second ahead of Rodney Pammenter with Raymont slipping three places over the distance to finish fourth ahead of Nathan MacDonald. NSW Champion Steve Price finished sixth while pre-race favourite and Qld Champion Shane MacDonald failed to complete the distance.
Sid Whittaker swept the Midget races with victory in both his qualifying Heats and the twenty lap Feature to earn his first career Midget victory. Whittaker narrowly held off Anthony Chaffey for the win, only the margin of less than half a second splitting the two, with Brock Dean coming home in third place. Last week’s Feature winner Grant Draney missed the double, taking the flag in fifth place just under three seconds behind the leader.
The vastly experienced Bert Cheatham, driving the USA 75 Late Model, was too quick for his rival competitors and won the ten lap Feature with Blair Granger and Kev Stowe completing the podium. Only a DNF in his second Heat race prevented Cheatham from sweeping the Late Model races.
Sprintcars return to BIS next Saturday night for Round 6 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series, with Fireworks for the kids, a Car And Caravan Race, Rollover Cars and a host of support classes also on the program.
