TULSA, Okla. (January 26, 2010) – Race fans in and around Arizona will be treated to the best of both ASCS worlds in 2010, as both the winged American Sprint Car Series Southwest Region and wingless Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region have announced 15-race schedules for the upcoming season.
The winged ASCS Southwest forces will tackle a handful of tracks in Arizona and New Mexico, while the topless ASCS Canyon contingent ventures to three tracks in the same states.
Tucson’s USA Raceway will once again host the heaviest slate of events with seven winged Southwest nights and ten topless nights. Both series will open and close the season at USA Raceway, with the March 13 ASCS Canyon Region opener followed by the ASCS Southwest lidlifter seven nights later.
Following Manzanita Speedway’s 2009 closure, both the ASCS Southwest and Canyon Regions will return to the Phoenix area in 2010 with events at Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park. The winged cars will take to the semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval on May 22, while the wingless aces toss the CSP clay on three separate occasions.
New Mexico’s Aztec Speedway will host a pair of two-day winged weekends, including the annual Floyd Reynolds Memorial in September, as well as the non-winged Hank Arnold Memorial on the Fourth of July weekend.
The ASCS Southwest Region will join up with the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters at Las Cruces’ Southern New Mexico Speedway on November 12-13, while also making a return to Prescott Valley Speedway in August.
Both series will finish off the 2010 season at USA Raceway’s 43rd Annual Western World Championships on November 18-20.
Charles Davis, Jr., delivered car owner Jim Massey his first series championship by taking the 2009 ASCS Canyon Region title while Las Cruces shoe Rick Ziehl pulled down his second consecutive ASCS Southwest Region title in 2009.
In its 19th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
