Volunteer Speedway event on March 19-20 features World of Outlaws Sprint Cars; Bulls Gap races part of Kasey’s King mini-series in Showdown for the Bud Crown
CONCORD, N.C. — Feb. 25, 2010 — Before he became a superstar in NASCAR, Kasey Kahne raced a Sprint Car at dirt tracks across the country. Now he’s trying on a new hat as a World of Outlaws race promoter.
In partnership with World Racing Group, Kahne will direct a mini-series of World of Outlaws events at three different tracks this season beginning on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20, at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn. — a racy, high-banked dirt oval down Interstate 81 from Bristol Motor Speedway, where Kahne will be racing NASCAR the same weekend.
The 20-time King of the Outlaws Steve Kinser, defending series champion Donny Schatz, plus title contenders Joey Saldana, Jason Meyers, Jason Sides, Danny Lasoski and all of the Outlaws will race to see who will be crowned Kasey’s King of Bulls Gap Presented by Budweiser. Combined with Kahne-promoted events later this season in Missouri and Illinois, the top three points finishers across all the events will share a $15,000 bonus dubbed as the Showdown for the Bud Crown.
“I am really excited to bring World of Outlaws racing back to Volunteer Speedway,” said Kahne, who owns the No. 9 Budweiser and No. 91 Great Clips World of Outlaws cars driven by Saldana and Paul McMahan. “The last time the Outlaws raced at Bulls Gap, the track was packed with fans, the racing was unreal, and Joey Saldana got the victory. I believe we can put on another incredible show for all the racing fans in the area.”
The two separate race nights at Volunteer Speedway promise to be one of the biggest weekends all year. Not only will the World of Outlaws be competing wheel-to-wheel at high speeds in their 900-horsepower winged Sprint Cars, but also the Volunteer Speedway Pro Late Models will showcase their competitive style. In addition, fans that purchase tickets in advance for only $59 get access to a special question-and-answer session with Kahne, a reserved seat for both nights, and a free pit pass. Tickets are available online by clicking the ticket link at http://www.worldofoutlaws.com/sprint or by calling 704-795-7223.
Kasey’s King of Bulls Gap Presented by Budweiser is just the beginning, too. On June 16 at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., Kahne will wear two hats as he will not only be promoting, but he’ll also jump into a World of Outlaws Sprint Car and try to claim the Kasey’s King of Sedalia Presented by Budweiser title himself. Then on July 8 in the Chicagoland region, the final Kasey’s King event winner and overall mini-series champion will be crowned by Budweiser. The designated track facility for the Illinois event will be announced at a later date.
Showtime at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap for both nights is 7:30 p.m. For more information, check out http://www.WorldofOutlaws.com.
