Concord, NC–March 26, 2010–Joey Saldana had successful surgery today on his broken left hand in Indianapolis to insert 10 screws and a plate to help regain full range of motion, following a very hard crash last Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway after getting caught up in a chain reaction accident after an early race red flag.
Saldana will use the two week gap in the schedule to let the hand heal and will begin rehab next week and expects to compete in the World of Outlaws next scheduled event on Saturday, April 10 at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Oklahoma.
Saldana, who was victorious last weekend in the opener of Kasey’s King of Bulls Gap Presented By Budweiser at Volunteer Speedway, is currently third in the World of Outlaws championship standings, just 20 markers behind leader Jason Meyers and 15 behind Steve Kinser who is currently second. Saldana has finished sixth or better in eight of the first nine World of Outlaws events in 2010 and despite the 24th-place finish in the finale at Bulls Gap last weekend, has an average finish of fifth in the first nine races of the season.
Saldana is one of just two drivers that has won multiple races in 2010, as he was victorious at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California in addition to his victory last weekend at Volunteer Speedway. He is the current leader in laps led this season on the tour, having paced the field for 71 circuits in three different events. He has seven Top-Five finishes which is tied with 20-time series champion Steve Kinser for the lead in that category.
The World of Outlaws return to action on Saturday, April 10 at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Oklahoma.
