(JUNE 29, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Perris Auto Speedway will host one of the biggest nights of the season this Saturday, July 3rd, when the track celebrates Independence Day with the Annual Firecracker 30 for the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the biggest and best fireworks show in Riverside County presented by the City of Perris and Budweiser. Joining the USAC/CRA contingent and the fireworks will be the California Lightning Sprint Cars. Spectator gates will open two hours earlier than normal at 3:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.
“This is always a big show and we open the gates a couple hours early so the lines are not to long at the ticket windows,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “For the fans who arrive early, we will have a live band and the drivers will compete with the kids in games including water balloon toss and three legged races. The kids will also have hot dog and watermelon eating contests. All of the drivers and cars will be available for photos and autographs as well. Then at intermission we will have a great fireworks sky concert. It is going to be a fun night with lots of great racing.”
Two-time defending USAC/CRA champion Mike Spencer of Temecula, California comes into Saturday’s race with the point lead over Santa Maria, California’s “Showtime” Danny Sheridan. Two weeks ago, Spencer increased his point lead to 40 with second place finish at Watsonville and a win in the last race at Petaluma. Sheridan recorded second and fourth place finishes respectively at those events to stay on Spencer’s rear bumper in the championship hunt. Ventura, California’s Cory Kruseman, who currently leads the USAC Western Midget point standings and who is third in USAC/CRA, garnered his initial USAC/CRA win of 2010 at the Watsonville race.

A couple other drivers to keep a keen eye on, on Saturday are Riverside, California’s “Dynamite” David Cardey and young Cody Williams of Yorba Linda, California. Cardey, who finished second in the 2009 USAC/CRA championship chase, is not pursuing the title in 2010. However, he has won the last two main events at The PAS with dramatic late race passes. Williams scored his best ever USAC/CRA finish when ran second to Spencer at Petaluma. That second place finish catapulted Williams up to ninth in the standings. When the series was last at The PAS on June 12th, he was 21st in points.
After being knocked off the top of the heap in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series standings two races ago, Spring Valley, California’s Jarrett Kramer retook the point lead with his second win of the season two weeks ago at Santa Maria. The victory was the second of the year for Kramer. Kramer and Ramona, California’s Bobby Bender, who has five wins, are the only drivers with more than one win in the series in 2010.
