SANTA MARIA, CA – JULY 22, 2010… The Fresno based Shaw Racing Team has partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help children with life threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The #88K USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Team is encouraging support from fellow racers and fans this Saturday night, July 24th, at the Santa Maria Speedway with a helmet drive to help raise funds and awareness.
Led by Car Owner Wes Shaw and Driver Koen Shaw, the team sponsors nine year old Trevor from Tulare. Trevor loves racing, everything from Trophy Trucks to Sprint Cars, his all-time favorite. The youngster was diagnosed several years ago with Leukemia after developing a very serious bacterial infection.
As a Make-A-Wish child, Trevor wishes to go on a cruise so that he can experience the food, waterslides, and swimming pools. His wish will come true later this summer as Trevor and his family will sail to the Caribbean. After their return, he will undergo a very serious operation and doctors estimate a one year recovery time. This Saturday night, Trevor will be in attendance to cheer on his favorite racers.
Since granting the first wish for a boy named Chris, who wanted to be a police officer for a day, more than 240,000 kids around the globe have supported by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The local chapter of the Make-A-Wish has granted over 1,300 wishes to Central Valley children to give them hope, strength, and joy.
