SYRACUSE, NY – This Saturday afternoon a fleet of winged super sprint stars and cars from the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints will converge on to the historic Montgomery County Fairgrounds, the home of the Fonda Speedway. It’s the first day of the very popular McDonald’s Weekend and it will be a very important event as the over all Lucas Oil and also the SUNY Canton Series Champions will be crowned when the checkered flag falls.
With an incredible end of the season charge, Steve Poirier and his FM Industries #28FM has won three of the last five full point events to take over the point lead in both standings. While it will be a tough task, Justin Barger has a shot to catch the Quebec star if bad luck follows him. Fonda’s famed ½ mile is a favorite of the Montrose, NY star and he will be ready to try for his second ESS title in a row.
Lance Yonge, Dan Kaszubinski and Chuck Hebing come into the event rounding out the top five in order in both point standings and they will be on hand to thrill the crowd and hope to bring down the very successful 2010 racing campaign with another win.
Joining the top five in the pits will be stars such as Jeff Cook, rookie sensation Kevin Ward Jr., Tommy Wickham, Michael Parent, Mike Stelter, Brian McDonald, Jason Barney, Alain Bergeron, Chris Jones, Zach Weigand, Jason Barney, Shawn Donath, Devin Caron, Shayne Ely, Anthony Cain, James Hanson, Dylan Swiernik, Blake Breen, Mark Zemcik, Brandon Warner and others.
With the late season event, some surprises will be in the field as well. Making their first ever ESS starts will be the Ohio Sprint Speedweek champion and Connecticut native David Gravel who will bring his DDR Racing #89 to the field with the car being wrenched by five-time ESS winner Rob Hart. Gravel is currently third in All-Star points. Subbing for the injured Jami Russell will be Oklahoma driver Mike Goodman a winner on the All-Star Circuit of Champions and also the World of Outlaw Gumout Series in 2001. Goodman is three time Oil Capital Racing Series Champion as well.
2009 Fonda Speedway winner Doug Emery will climb back behind the wheel of one of his own Patterson Motorsports backed #33’s. This will mark just the second time Emery will be behind the wheel in 2010 for ESS competition. If she has a successful run at Eldora the night before, look for Jessica Zemken to travel through the night to be in the field as well. Also, once again behind the wheel of Pete Demitraszek’s #61 will be 2010 Fonda Speedway big block champion Bobby Varin. Varin’s modified owner Dave Cruickshank and his Dover Brake business is sponsoring the Cobra Coaches Dash.
Fans and teams are reminded that the gates will open at 11 with racing to get underway at 2PM. McDonald’s Weekend, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint and SUNY Canton Series championships and the Fonda Speedway. It will be excitement guaranteed!
