Sprintcar Classic Night 1 Roundup

All eyes were on Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, Australia on Saturday for the opening night of the 39th Standard Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

With the pit area packed to capacity as 96 cars were nominated for the event, the field was split in half with the first half hotlapping and qualifying and then the track was reworked for the remaining half. The D&B Goodyer Development team was the ninth car out to qualify in the first half and turned a lap of 11.873 seconds, 10th in the first group and 17th overall. 16 scheduled heat races were the next event on the docket. In the first round of heats, Dollansky started third but the field wouldn’t see much passing as he finished 3rd. With the second round of heat race competition completely inverted, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ started tenth and battled up to 3rd again.

At the conclusion of the heat races, points were accumulated with Dollansky earning the fourteenth most and transferring directly into the main event. When the first two attempts to start the 25-lap A-Main went to the wayside, the third time wasn’t a charm for Dollansky as he got spun out and had to restart at the tail of the field. On the restart, Dollansky made it past five cars and continued to work his way back to the front as he raced into 10th at the finish. “We keep learning a little bit about the car and hopefully we can improve our finish for tomorrow night”, commented Dollansky.

With points again accumulated after the feature, Dollansky moved from 14th up to 11th overall which will set the lineup for the first round of heats in tomorrow night’s $30,000 to win Sprintcar Classic finale.
