Reidy Misses the Cut

By Daniel Powell

A fourth place finish last Saturday night’s Australian Sprintcar Championship B-main at Premier Speedway wasn’t enough for Danny Reidy to advance into the feature race line-up and he blamed that on simply not doing enough in his earlier heat races.

With the Australian Championship format being four rounds of heat races for each driver over the two nights Reidy admitted that he didn’t make enough forward progress in his heat races and therefore had take his place in the last chance B-main in order to make the final two spots in the feature race field.

The NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort supported Eagle driver had started from outside the front row in the B-main, but was outmuscled at the start and consequently dropped back to fifth place. On a one lane track where passing was a difficult task, Reidy fought his way back to finish in fourth place, but that was only good enough to be the second reserve for the feature race. As it turned out, Reidy didn’t get a feature race start and had to watch from the infield.

“Although we moved forward in our heat races it simply wasn’t good enough to make the feature race field directly,” Reidy explained, who on the Wednesday night had finished sixth in the Prelude to the Championship event. “The B-main, where two drivers make the transfer spot, is always going to be a tough deal and I didn’t make the start and that hurt me in the end and disappointingly I missed out on making a transfer spot.”

The Reidy Racing team now turn their focus to this Saturday night (February 5) where they will run the Australian Nationals at Speedway City (Adelaide, SA) before they contest the Western Australian swing of the World Series Sprintcar Championship.

Reidy would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P & M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all their support throughout the 2010/11 season.
