From the SOS
London, ON (March, 07 2011) The schedule for the sixteenth season of competition is now set for the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS). The tour will take the SOS across Ontario this summer with stops at Brighton Speedway, Ohsweken Speedway and South Buxton Raceway. As well, the SOS continues the tradition as an affiliate sanctioning body for the 7th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.
The season opening race will once again be held at Brighton Speedway. The opener is scheduled for Saturday May 21st with a rain date of Sunday the 22nd available if required.
With the teams tuned up after the off season, Round 2 will lock it into gear at Brighton Speedway on Saturday June 11th .
The next events on the 2011 SOS schedule will be special back to back nights of action. Working with Ohsweken Speedway and South Buxton Raceway, the SOS is pleased to announce two double header race weekends in 2011. Friday, June 24th will see the SOS at Ohsweken Speedway and Saturday, June 25th will see the tour head west down the 401 to South Buxton Raceway. Both nights of racing will see the SOS teams competing with teams from around the region. ESS, SOD, PST and teams that race weekly at Ohsweken have all been invited to participate.
One event is scheduled for July with the SOS appearing at Brighton Speedway July 9th . The relaxed schedule will allow teams time for busy summer family activities. It’s also an opportunity for teams that wish to complete with the NRA sprints at Eldora Speedway for Kings Royal Weekend July 15th and 16th and the World of Outlaws when their tour makes a swing through the Southern Ontario region the last week of July.
Things will heat up again in August with the SOS returning east to Brighton Speedway on Saturday August 6th before the second double header weekend at Ohsweken Speedway Friday, August 19th and South Buxton Raceway on Saturday, August 20th.
Once again, the Southern Ontario Sprints points championship will be decided at Brighton Speedway as part of the Labour Day Classic weekend of events. A full night of racing will be run on Saturday, Sept. 3rd with a full day of fun including a tailgate party, race car show and autograph session before the Championship is settled on Sunday, Sept 4th. After the Championship battle has been settled Sunday night, teams are invited to have a little fun Wingless style! As part of “Topless” night at the track where the latemodel stock cars will run with no roof, sprint car teams are invited to take the top wings off and participate in a special wingless dash race to cap off the weekend.
The SOS will also once again be an affiliate sanctioning body for the seventh annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway. The largest Sprint Car event in Canada, the Nationals, attracts some of the biggest names in 360 Sprint Car racing and will pay $11,000 to the winner this season.
