FORLER EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT TOP FIVE AT HUSET’S

– BRANDON, S.D. (May 16) – Logan Forler is beginning to like South Dakota.

He recorded his second straight top-five finish at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Sunday. And to top that off, Forler isn’t content with his result.

“I think I was a little more capable of finishing better than I did,” the 17-year-old from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., said. “I had a definite top-three car. I don’t really know if I had a winning car or a top-two car because I never had the chance to get out in clean air and run with those guys.”

After qualifying 10th and finishing fourth in his heat race, Forler started 10th in the 25-lap feature. From the wave of the green flag, much of the field stayed in a tight pack.

“It was a really weird race and it went by really fast,” he said. “There were no cautions and there were like nine cars racing together the whole time. You couldn’t really pass anybody because everyone was all over the place.”

Forler stayed on the bottom of the track for the first 10 laps before a couple of lapped cars forced him to the top, which turned out to be the best place to run.

“I drove it in a little too hard and I noticed that driving it in too hard wasn’t hard enough because the car was too tight,” he said. “At that point I knew it started to take rubber because the car didn’t have any slide to it.”

Forler worked his way up to fourth place before a lapped car slowed his momentum in the final laps. Forler dropped a couple of positions, but made a pass exiting turn four on the last lap to claim fifth place.

“I had no idea where I was until I pulled into the pits,” Forler said. “I stopped at the scales because I thought I might have been top five, but I wasn’t sure.

“You didn’t know who was a lapped car and who wasn’t. You were just trying to get by the cars.”

Forler is scheduled to kick off a three-race weekend on Friday with his first race at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He’ll then compete on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, before Sunday’s event at Huset’s Speedway.
