TULSA, Okla. (May 23, 2011) – The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region has already ventured south of state lines for competition at Texas’ Devil’s Bowl Speedway as well as ensuing competition on Sooner turf in Lawton.
Now, the Sooner forces venture across Northern state boundaries for this weekend’s Third Annual Steve King Memorial at “The Great American Dirt Track” Jetmore Motorplex in Jetmore, KS, this Saturday and Sunday.
Both full nights of action offer up a $3,000 winner’s share, with both nights treated as single night events thus no lock-ins from Saturday’s card to Sunday.
It will mark the first ASCS Sooner competition at the Jetmore Motorplex since South Dakota’s Randi Miller topped a Rocky Mountain vs. Sooner clash in 2002.
With a pair of Sooner events in the books prior to this last weekend’s rainout at South Coffeyville, Matt Covington of Glenpool, OK, is out to the early American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region points lead after his Lawton Speedway triumph on May 14.
Covington holds a 40-point advantage over Texas shoe Claud Estes with a pair of Oklahoma City-based past Sooner champions in third and fourth, Andy Shouse (2004) and Joe Wood, Jr. (2009). Guthrie’s Michelle Decker rounds out the current top five, with the rest of the top ten including the rookie trio of Brady Demeree (Skiatook), Koby Barksdale (Norman) and Rick Wright, Jr., (San Jose, CA), along with Michael Brown (Lawton) and Donnie Ray Crawford (Broken Arrow).
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon is the reigning Steve King Memorial winner after sweeping both nights of last year’s Memorial Day weekend event in southwest Kansas. Nebraska’s Jack Dover topped the inaugural edition of the Steve King Memorial in 2009.
Both Saturday and Sunday in Jetmore are set to go green at 7:30 p.m.
“The Great American Dirt Track” Jetmore Motorplex is located 6.6 miles south of SR 156 in Jetmore, KS, on US 283. For more information, check www.tbjpromotions.com or call 620-225-3929 or 620-385-0551.
