SYRACUSE, NY – Coming off a successful weekend north of the border in Quebec, the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) now embark on another two race weekend in New York. The Mohawk International Raceway and the Fulton Speedway will be stops six and seven on the ESS full point trail.
Coming off the Quebec weekend, a fierce and close point battle has emerged with a surprise on top of the points. South Onondaga’s Shawn Donath is in his first year as a full time ESS tour traveler and off his solid victory at Granby he leads the overall point standings.
Alain Bergeron, the 2006 champion, is within striking distance as well as Cory Sparks, Chuck Hebing and last years rookie of the year Kevin Ward Jr. who rounds out the top five in points. Defending ESS champ Steve Poirier sits sixth and with 15 full point races remaining, he can not be counted out of the points fight as the same for Jeff Cook, Michael Parent and others.
The Friday night stop on the Akwesasne Reservation will see points also awarded for the Northwood 2 Construction/LaSalle Motorsports Canadian Sprint Series and also the SUNY Canton Series. Along with the teams mentioned above, fans will get to see local favorites Brian McDonald, Dylan Swiernik, Lee Ladouceur, Devin Caron and Carey Terrance as well as Chris Jones, Devin Caron, Tyler Rand, Paul Pekkonen, Patrick Vigneault, Dale Gosselin and others.
A special Cobra Coaches Dash event run in memory of Mitch Jock and Mark Smoke will be held with friends and family on hand in which should be a special moment.
After Mohawk is on to the high banks of the Fulton Speedway where ESS hasn’t completed am event since 2006. Last year Mother Nature took the A-Main victory so the teams will be chomping at the bit to collect the checkered flag.
Names such as Lance Yonge, Justin Barger, Tommy Wickham, Mike Stelter, Matt Tanner, Doug Emery, Jared Fink, Brandon Warner and a host of others will be joining the ESS faithful at the famed speedway.
Long time sponsor M&W Aluminum Products will back the Cobra Coaches Dash on this night, M&W also sponsors the Doug Emery owned, Shawn Donath driven sprinter that leads the point standings.
The Mohawk International Raceway, the Fulton Speedway, the stars and cars of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints…It will be the continued tradition of excitement guaranteed!! And, for over 28 years.
