NEWTON (June 16, 2011) – Although it has been awhile since you last read about “Shake Up” Jacob, don’t doubt that he hasn’t been out and about!
Jacob and the Ossenfort racing team prepared for a three day weekend over Memorial Day weekend. Night one took the team to Huron, South Dakota for the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) 410 event at the Dakota State Fair Speedway. Jacob and his Knology #99J Don Ott powered 410, finished the night with a solid ninth place finish in the main event. “I was really excited to get back to Huron this year, because we had such a great run there last year. The track is a big 3/8 of a mile and I like big tracks. Its high speed and I feel like I can be smoother on a big track,” said Jacob.
Night two landed the team at Huset’s Speedway, in Brandon, South Dakota where they competed in another NOSA 410 event. There weren’t any qualifying runs to start the night, so thirty-two of the entered cars started the evening’s show. Jacob had to work his way through the B-Main, where he started fourth and finished a strong second, for a transfer spot to the night’s main event. “I started twenty-second and finished fifteenth. I was very happy with moving forward, but I know I can still do better.” Jacob had to say.
Unfortunately, Monday’s events were cancelled after qualifying, due to severe weather in the area.
Two weeks ago the team tried their hand at their hometown track of Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City. Jacob and the Knology #99J finished second in the heat race, qualifying him for the re-draw for starting positions in the night’s main event. He drew a six, placing him third row, outside in the sixth position for the start. “The track started to get pretty dry, making it difficult to pass and even get traction at times, but I made my way to a fourth place finish. Although it’s something to be proud of, we plan to make some changes and see if we can’t get up there in the lead,” said Jacob of the run.
Jacob and the Ossenfort racing team ended their weekend back at Huset’s, where he finished the night in thirteenth, after running a determined A-Main.
Last weekend the team ran one night, racing in Huset’s once again. “We’ve been struggling with this track, although running respectively, we’d really like to tame it,” said Jacob.
And starting the “taming” process he did! Jacob qualified sixth, starting the evening with something to be excited about. His qualifying time placed him in third to start his heat race, where he ran in fourth. Even though the heat race left him with something more to desire, he came back to start the feature with resolve. Jacob and his Knology #99J started the night’s main event in sixth and made it through the race with some defensive driving. “The main was crazy. It was action packed and there were quite a few wrecks. Avoiding them is just another part of racing that doesn’t always get thought about.” Jacob said. Jacob made it safely to the checkered flags, crossing the line in fifth place. “We tightened up the car a little bit, because I didn’t think that the track would dry out too much. I guess we made the right call, because my car was hooked up and handling great! Big thanks to my dad, Grandpa and Bryan for setting up the car. We ran up top and raced with Robby Wolfgang for a long time, but in a strong fight to the finish he got passed me, and though I was prepared to get him back, he just didn’t make any mistakes for me to capitalize on.” Jacob and his team walked away with a smile, because that was their best finish in the Don Ott powered 410, at Huset’s Speedway, and you can bet they’ll be after it again!
This weekend you will find Jacob and the Ossenfort racing team at Black Hills Speedway on Friday night and again at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. Be sure that you take advantage of what looks like a great weekend, and catch them if you can!

Vortex Racing Products
Vortex Racing Products is the industry leader in Sprintcar Wing design. From humble beginnings in 1995 where we began producing wings for our own use we quickly became engaged in producing wings for other race teams. Inspired by a life-long background in racecar design and manufacturing from our Dad, we (Paul and Lynton) continued to evolve into a company known for producing a product a little different from the rest. This ability to manufacture a Wing that is unique in design is what has been our success. With the use of our own race teams in Australia and America, we continually push the boundaries of design with an extensive testing program of our products each and every year. It is with our understanding of chassis design and manufacturing that we are able to communicate with our clients and tailor a wing package that best suits their driver, team and make of chassis. We call this,” The Vortex Advantage”. http://www.vortexracingproducts.com.au/
