TULSA, Okla. (August 22, 2011) – The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region will put the championship points battle on hold for a weekend with a special non-points paying event this Saturday night at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway.
Rather than chasing points, the sole purpose on Saturday night will be to chase down the $3,000 feature winner’s share atop the high-banked, ¼-mile clay oval.
The event will also mark the final opportunity under ASCS sanction to tune up for the upcoming 24th Annual Comp Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires, a Lucas Oil ASCS National event set for October 27-29 that offers up $15,000 to win and $2,400 just to start the STN championship feature event.
Oklahoma City’s Joe Wood, Jr., is the current ASCS Sooner Region points leader, as he tries to add a second series title to the one he earned in 2009. Wood, Jr., holds a 96-point lead over Glenpool, Oklahoma’s Matt Covington, who put the clamps on the ASCS Lone Star title this past weekend.
Guthrie’s Michelle Decker, Oklahoma City’s Andy Shouse and California native Rick Wright, Jr., round out the current top five in Sooner points, with Claud Estes of Godley, TX, one point out of the top five in sixth.
West Memphis’ A.G. Rains holds the current lead in I-30 Speedway track points over Zach Pringle, Cody Gardner, Joe Young and Bryce Vowan.
Saturday’s event at I-30 Speedway marks the first ASCS Sooner event at Little Rock since two-time Sooner champ Brian McClelland picked off a win in May of 2008.
Saturday night’s $3,000-to-win tilt at I-30 Speedway is set to go green at 7:30 p.m.
I-30 Speedway is located seven miles southwest of Little Rock off I-30 Exit 126 (Alexander Rd.), then south to frontage road, then east. For more information, contact the track at 501-455-4567 or check http://www.i-30speedway.com/.
The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is slated for 14 nights of racing action at seven different tracks throughout Oklahoma and neighboring areas of Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Arkansas in 2011.
The 2011 season marks the 20th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with approximately 200 nights of competition at tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
