August 24, 2011 – Brandon Wimmer’s recovery from back surgery earlier this month is going well. He wanted to share his progress and make it known that he is thankful for all the well wishes he has been receiving during his recovery.
Brandon’s back problems had been persistent this race season. “I’d been having some back pain this summer,” he says. “I went to a couple different doctors and they had seen some spots in my back, but they didn’t think anything was serious. At the beginning of August, I went to see Dr. Trammell in Indianapolis.”
The Fairmount, Indiana driver now living in Noblesville is thankful he went to see Trammell. “The very first time I went there, he found a tumor growing on my T-6 vertebrae,” says Brandon. “It was pushing on my spine and we needed to remove it right away. On August 5, I had the surgery. They removed part of the vertebrae that had the tumor on it, and got rid of that. Thankfully, it didn’t test positive for cancer.”
Brandon got some good news this week. “This week, I went back for my check-up, and everything is going well,” he says. “They’re letting me get back into working out slowly. I lost a lot of weight because of the pain, and I’m starting to build it back up. It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to race the rest of this year, but I’m getting my health back into shape for next year.”
He is especially grateful for all the kind words from family and friends. “There have been a lot of people that have called and left me messages on Facebook and stuff,” says Brandon. “I really appreciate everyone’s thought and prayers that they have sent along. I’m slowly getting better every day. I owe a lot to Dr. Trammell too for everything he has done.”
Brandon can now concentrate on getting back to racing in 2012. “I want to be 100% when I come back,” he says. “I don’t want to push it. Taking the rest of this season off will be the best thing for my health. There are plenty of years left to race.”
Brandon would like to thank the sponsors who have stood by him for many years, including Butlerbuilt, Simpson, Gaerte Engines, Red Line Oil, Maxim Chassis, All Star Performance, KSE, Real Wheels, Astro Titanium, Wilwood, HRP wings, Winters and WRT Web designs.
