After taking a few weeks off after the Knoxville Nationals, Jonathan Allard and his Williams Motorsports team dropped in for Silver Dollar Speedway’s championship finale Friday night, where JA proceeded to dominate the event until a flat tire dashed his shot at victory with just two laps remaining.
The night got off to a lightning fast start for the Chico, CA native as he timed in with the quickest lap of the 14 cars assembled at the high – banked ¼ mile track.
Heat race action saw JA charge to second from his third row starting spot, as he relentlessly hounded Andy Forsberg as they battled for the top spot. After the eight lap battle, Allard held the second position.
As fate would have it, the ‘0’ pill was pulled putting the No. 0 on the pole of the 25-lap feature.
As the green flag waved, Allard quickly out dueled fellow front row starter, Tyler Wolf, and simply checked out.
JA was never challenged for the lead as he was magnificent through lapped traffic. As the race clicked off the first 23 laps with no caution, Allard had lapped up to seventh.
During the lap 23 caution, JA’s right rear tire was noticeably losing air as the field continued to idle around the track as officials lined the field up.
When the race resumed, Allard’s tire was simply too flat, and JA spun off the backstretch.
JA would rebound over the final two laps to score a seventh place finish.
“This car was simply awesome tonight, and we really needed the win,” said Allard. “Unfortunately that caution hurt us with the right rear tire, but it’s part of the game. This was a good tune up for the Outlaw’s west coast swing, and I’m excited to take them on again.”
ON TAP: Up next for JA and his Williams Motorsports team will be a return trip to the Skagit Speedway for two nights of World of Outlaws action on September 2-3. Last time Allard visited Skagit, he picked up his third Dirt Cup victory.
