Oil City Cup Finale Recap

From CDR

August racing and the ‘Great Northern Tour’ came to a close on Saturday for the Big Game Treestands #7 team as they returned to Castrol Raceway in Canada for the finale of the Oil City Cup as ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ made his tenth appearance at the 3/8-mile track located in Edmonton, Alberta.

When the race evening got underway, Dollansky was the fastest car overall after hot laps but a late qualifying pill would see the Karavan Trailers #7 be the second-to-last car out to qualify and just miss the heat race inversion by qualifying 13th. Heat race competition put the Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products Maxim on the inside of row three and finish in the 5th position as the team shifted their attention to the main event.

In the 35-lap A-Main Dollansky lined up thirteenth on the grid and held the position by the time an early caution came on lap 3. Another accident on the restart lined the 24-car field up single-file for the next restart as Dollansky advanced a couple spots before the next stoppage came on lap 11. The ensuing restart was a good one for the Elk River, Minnesota native as he rocketed past three cars up to eighth and then up one more by the time a caution came three laps later. When action resumed Dollansky ran seventh with 10 laps to go and gained another position a few laps later. Unfortunately as the remaining hand full of laps winded down the rear end broke on the Aggressive Hydraulics #7 and Dollansky was forced to retire from the event.

“We had a good run going until the rear end broke and had made our way into the top six from thirteenth and the race was far from over,” commented Dollansky. “Unfortunately rather than having a good finish we ended up with a DNF but we are now focused on Skagit.”

The Big Game Treestands now heads to Skagit Speedway in Washington for a two-day show beginning on Friday, September 2nd.
