– SPRINGFIELD, Neb. (Oct. 4) – This weekend will be a rare one away from the track for Jack Dover as he gears up for a busy finish to the season.
With nine victories and 31 top-five finishes in 44 races this season, the Springfield, Neb., native is cleaning, fixing and preparing for four big weekends with the ASCS National Tour in a six-week span to cap the 2011 campaign.
“We’re reorganizing the trailer and shop, and going over everything on the sprint cars so that we’re completely ready to end this season on a high note,” he said. “There are some major races left to end the season and we’ve done well at all the tracks, so I’m looking forward to hopefully competing for a couple more wins.”
The 21-year-old has had great success at each of the four venues, which starts Oct. 13-15 at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, for the $12,000-to-win inaugural Lone Star Sprint Nationals. Dover finished 16th in his only ASCS National race at the high-banked, 3/8-mile dirt oval in April 2010.
The following weekend – Oct. 22-23 – Dover and the ASCS National Tour move on to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 38th annual Winter Nationals. Dover snared his biggest career payday when he claimed the $10,000 victory in last year’s finale at the semi-banked, ½ mile.
“We had a pair of top fives last year there and that win was huge,” he said. “That trip helped us build some great momentum to end the season, when I think we got two wins and seven top fives in 10 races.”
After a couple weeks off, Dover will close out the season with a trip to the Southwest that begins on Nov. 11-12 at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M. In his only two career races at the semi-banked, 5/16-mile track, Dover recorded a victory and a third-place finish last November.
He concludes the season the next weekend – Nov. 17-19 – at the $15,000-to-win, 44th annual Western World Championships at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. In six career ASCS National Tour events there, Dover has an average finish of 5.17 with three top fives and six top 10s.
He placed fourth and second, respectively, in his first two races of the 2011 season at the semi-banked, 3/8-mile track.
“I drove for Jason Johnson at those first couple of races in Tucson and I’m excited to end the season there,” Dover said. “I hope we can do as well to end the year as we did to begin it.”
SEASON STATS –
44 races, 40 features, 9 wins, 31 top fives, 34 top 10s, 36 top 15s, 37 top 20s
