Granger, IA—Oct. 19, 2011— Kraig Kinser is no stranger to Victory Lane at Talladega. In fact, he won in his most recent start at the track in 2005, though that was at Talladega Superspeedway, the monstrous 2.66-mile paved oval. The second generation driver will return to the one-third-mile dirt oval across the street this weekend for the first time since 2003, as the World of Outlaws visit Talladega Short Track on Saturday, October 22 for the “Talladega Sage Fruit Showdown.”
Kinser made his debut at Talladega Short Track with the World of Outlaws on Oct. 19, 2001 on a preliminary night of racing. He came back the next night and turned in the 10th fastest lap in time trials, racing his way into the dash in the process. The third generation driver scored his best-career finish at the track in 2003, coming home ninth on Sept. 27. He has made a total of six main event starts at the track in his career.
Kinser’s win at Talladega Superspeedway came in an ARCA event, which saw him lead 83 of the 113 laps. He joined his father Steve as a winner at the legendary track, making them one of three pairs of fathers and sons that have won at Talladega, along with Bobby Allison and his late son Davey, and the late Dale Earnhardt and his son Dale Jr. The elder Kinser was victorious in an IROC race at the track in 1994.
The younger Kinser heads to Talladega after finishing 18th in his most recent World of Outlaws start at Fremont Speedway in Ohio, on Oct. 15. Fremont like Talladega Short Track is a one-third-mile bullring.
Kinser enters the event at Talladega Short Track eighth in the World of Outlaws championship standings on the strength of 21 Top-10 finishes, to go along with five Top-Five performances including a win at Cottage Grove Speedway, as he continues his first season driving the Casey’s General Store Maxim for Parsons Motorsports.
Kraig on Talladega Short Track:
“Two weeks in a row we’ll be at a track that we haven’t been to for a long time and that’s always exciting for the fans. There is always a very good crowd when we race down there and I would expect it to be the same this time around with the fans coming over from the big track. I’ve never had the best of luck there, but have always enjoyed racing there. With just a couple of races left this year, we want to end the year on a strong note.”
