After sitting silent from World of Outlaws action since 2004, Talladega Short Track in Alabama was ready to shine in the spotlight again on Saturday as Craig Dollansky made his seventh appearance at the 1/3-mile in the Sage Fruit Showdown.
The night got off to an up and down start for ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ as he rocketed the Big Game Treestands backed sprinter to the fastest lap in hotlaps but lost some speed in qualifying posting the 17th fastest lap at 13.477 seconds. Missing the heat race inversion meant the Karavan Trailers #7 would start sixth in the third heat where Dollansky finished 6th to transfer into the main event.
In the 35-lap A-Main the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim lined up inside of row nine on the grid. The green flag wouldn’t stay out long when the feature got underway however as a caution on the second circuit halted action as Dollansky moved up one spot to sixteenth. As racing continued the Elk River, Minnesota native advanced a couple more spots until another stoppage a few laps later on lap 6 and then maintained position until just after the halfway point when a lap 18 caution moved the Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance Products Maxim up one. When the green replaced the yellow Dollansky lost a position in the remaining laps and crossed the finish line in 14th.
The Big Game Treestands #7 team will now travel back to their shop in Princeton, MN in preparation for the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte which gets underway on Thursday, November 3rd.
