Returning to the seat of his Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance/Swift Finishing No.89, Rico Abreu scored a 21st place finish Friday night at the Mini Gold Cup in Chico, CA.
A poor racing surface, greatly affected the second year driver as he lined up 22nd in the 35-lap feature after timing in 22nd quick of the 36 cars on hand.
Though he was stuck in the back on a track that allowed for little to no passing, Abreu was in one of the only battles on the track, as he and Robbie Whittchurch battled in the back of the field.
With most of the field nose to tail with one and other, Abreu and Whittchurch battled in the back, with Whittchurch scaling the top of the cushion, and Abreu sliding around.
Though he wasn’t in contention for the win, Abreu was able to save his tires, and end the night with a 21st place finish.
“Goodyear and Schatz were the big winners tonight,” said Abreu. “It was a pretty disappointing track to try and race on, but I had a pretty good car, and it’s always good to make the A with the Outlaws.”
ON TAP: Rico will now head back to meet up with his Keith Kunz Racing team, as he is set to compete in the USAC National Midget opener in North Carolina this Friday and Saturday.
