Shane Stewart visited his third country of 2012, and like his opening weekends in Austrailia and the United States, Stewart again won his first night in a different country as he swept the weekend during his stop in Granby, Canada aboard Scott McClaren’s No. 21 machine.
Stewart was simply dominant all weekend as he scored his first win in the Quebec Province.
Starting scratch on the field in his heat race on Friday night, Stewart powered his Don Ott /SST/A.R.T. machine to the lead, and went on to pick up the win.
The heat win put Stewart on the front row of the 15-lap feature, and the Indianapolis, IN resident was never challenged as he cruised to a dominating victory.
“The crew worked hard all night, and I can’t thank them enough,” said Stewart. “I was glad they reworked the track during intermission because it helped a ton, and I never really had to lift during the feature.”
Saturday night saw Stewart equally as stout as all eyes were on the 2011 Lucas Oil ASCS National Champion.
Starting on the pole of his heat, Stewart powered the McClaren owned No.21 machine to the win, and lined up on the outside of the front row for the finale.
Sharing the front row with Alain Bergeron, Stewart didn’t quite get the start he was looking for as he settled into the second spot and hunted down Bergeron.
Bergeron clicked off lighting fast laps as he held Stewart at bay, but once in traffic, Stewart made quick work of the early leader, and took the point with just 15 laps remaining.
Once in front, Stewart never looked back and finished off his weekend sweep at the first ever Can-Am Challenge.
“These guys work hard every night, and I’m pleased to pick up a couple wins for them,” said Stewart. “We’ve raced together a few times in the past, and we have a bunch more races scheduled together so it’s nice to get started like this.”
Shane and his Scott McClaren team would like to thank A.R.T., SST Shocks, Don Ott, and OMP Safety Equipment for their support this year.
ON TAP: Stewart and the McClaren team will now head back to Pennsylvania for a pair of races this coming weekend as they will be at the Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night before heading to Port Royal on Saturday.
