(June 7, 2012) – Ohsweken Speedway will remember a champion this Friday night when Trailers By Jim Bray presents the “Abel Castelein Twin 14’s” for the HRW Automotive Mini Stock division. Last week’s postponed “Sponsors Night” activities will be held on Friday when race teams have the opportunity to invite their sponsors to the track for a night of entertainment as guests of Ohsweken Speedway, with the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers also in action.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
Friday’s twin 14 lap Mini Stock features combine to honour the #28 of Abel Castelein, the 2007 and 2008 champion of the division who passed away in October 2011. Abel was the winner of countless feature races, but more importantly he won the respect and admiration of everyone at the tracks he competed at. Abel was a teacher by profession, and also by nature, as he helped many of his fellow racers. He was a great ambassador for Ohsweken Speedway, and racing in general.
Hamilton’s Jason Lungaro scored his first career Mini Stock feature win in dramatic fashion on opening night with a last lap pass. He leads the standings heading into this Friday’s races, followed by Burlington driver Jeremy Hughes, Mike Evers of Caledonia, Hamilton’s Brittani Myers, and Paris driver Steve Miller. Those drivers and many others will be ready to race on Friday night in honour of their fallen friend.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS
Ohsweken’s own Glenn Styres won the season opener for the Sprint Cars, and leads the championship standings as a result. Dain Naida of Tecumseh, Michigan is 2nd in the standings, followed by a tie for 3rd between Vineland’s Chris Steele and Burford driver Jamie Collard, and Fenwick driver Tom Huppunen in 5th.
LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS
Brad Herron of Brantford got the win in the opening race for the Thunder Stocks, and leads the points standings heading into this Friday’s event. Caistor Centre’s Cory Turner sits 2nd in the standings, followed by Caledonia driver Lee Winger, Jack Myers of Wainfleet, and Caledonia’s Mike Thorne.
PIERCED PARTS BOMBERS
Another Hamilton driver was also a first-time winner on opening night, as Max Chechalk went to the winner’s circle after the Bomber feature. He leads the championship standings heading into this week’s event, followed by Carlisle’s Davey Boughton, Jesse McDonald of Caledonia, Waterdown driver Rodney Rutherford, and Hagersville’s Dusty DeBoer.
