Port Royal – Details have been released regarding the upcoming Living Legends Dream Race for 410 sprints at Port Royal Speedway to be held on August 4 with more information in the offing.
This year’s installment of the race will honor another pair of iconic men in the history of the sport and offer a unique format for drivers and fans as part of the lucrative event.
Honored this year as Living Legends at the event will be 1976 and 1983 track champion driver Lynn Paxton and iconic sprint car owner Al Hamilton.
Paxton is probably most remembered at Port Royal for his years aboard the Boops Aluminum Special No. 1 sprint car along with drives he made in the Emrich Chevrolet No. 1 and in Hamilton’s No. 77.
Hamilton as an owner claimed track titles at Port Royal with Mitch Smith in 1977, with Paxton in 1983 and with Keith Kauffman in 1984 and 1985.
The event itself that will offer thousands of dollars worth of contingency awards and cash and will include time trials, a pair of semi features and a 30-lap Dream A Main that will pay a minimum of $10,000 to win.
Each 16-lap semi feature will also offer a full payoff including $2,000 to the winner.
There will be no heat races with semi fields instead being set directly by time trial results. The top 10 finishers in each semi feature will transfer directly into the Dream A Main.
The A Main will include a field of 25 starters with the final 25th starter to be determined by a fan vote held immediately following the B Main.
The entire night will offer sprint car drivers a purse eclipsing $50,000 including contingencies and awards.
More information and details about this exciting and innovative format and event at Port Royal Speedway will be announced in the coming days and weeks.
