MIKE SPENCER SHOOTS FOR USAC/PERRIS RECORD SATURDAY!

By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, July 24, 2012) Cal Poly Pomona engineering graduate Mike Spencer will be out to break the USAC/CRA record for consecutive wins at Perris Auto Speedway on “California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night,” this Saturday night, July 28th. The 30-year-old racing superstar comes into Saturday’s race at the series home track with four straight wins tying him with 2007 series champ Tony Jones and David Cardey. In addition to the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, The PAS Senior Sprints and California Lightning Sprints will also be part of the triple header show. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.

Jones, who now serves as crew chief for series rookie Jake Swanson, set the record for uninterrupted USAC/CRA victories at four when he turned the trick in 2008. Cardey went on the same tear two years later in 2010.

Spencer, who claimed his first ever 410 Sprint Car win at The PAS on June 10, 2006, has only been beaten to the checkered flag one time at the Riverside County clay oval in 2012. In the season opener on February 25th, the Temecula resident finished fourth behind Nic Faas, Ryan Bernal and Matt Mitchell. Since that time he has been perfect on the track that is located in the shadow of the Lake Perris Dam. In addition to his four wins at The PAS, Spencer, who drives for legendary owner Ron Chaffin in a car wrenched by National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Bruce Bromme Jr., also won the June 15th race at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. The handsome racer has won five of the first nine races in the series in 2012 and has a comfortable 74-point lead over Faas in the championship standing as he seeks his fifth title in a row.

Adding extra intrigue to Saturday’s race is more than $5,000.00 in extra purse money spread throughout the night. Included will be the “Walt James Last Man Standing Trophy Dash,” which will be a series of three races with the last place finisher being eliminated each time until only driver remains. The purse for that event stood at $2,100.00 as this piece went to press. Also, the “Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award,” which will reward the fast qualifier on the night a minimum of $500.00 extra.

The PAS would like to send a special thank you to all of the people who donated extra money for the show. Ann Wilkerson, Greg Katz, Ron Schwarze, Friends of Danny P, Linda Halibrand, Nancy O’Toole, Redican/Simpson, Steve Stroud, Surf N sprint, Don Flanders, Walt James Family, Parker Stores, the 3 Aggies (Cary Agajanian, Chris Agajanian and J.C. Agajanian Jr.), MJF Equipment Transport, NNJFI, The Wheelcover Man, Huntington Beach Glass/Mirror, Joe Godoy, Rick Gaunt Family, James Harland, David Pease, Lubrication Equipment & Supply, Tracy Forrester Johnson and “Dirtface”.

Fans who live more than 100-miles away from the track can watch the race live on the Circle Track Network. http://www.circletracknetwork.com/ Those who live within the 100-mile black out radius or anywhere else can watch it “On Demand” 24-hours after the final checkered flag.

Adults tickets for Saturday’s are $25.00. Seniors get in for $20.00. For active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 it is just $5.00. Children 5 and under are admitted free.

The entire 2012 PAS schedule is listed at the end of this release.
