The Mopar USAC National Midget Series takes a hiatus until August 19 when they return to Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. for the “Cornfest 30” co-sanctioned with BMARA and POWRi. Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. continues to hold a sizeable lead over Tracy Hines in the standings.
Hines became the winningest USAC driver in history at Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind. Thursday night, scoring his 13th win at the .686-mile paved oval to break a tie with Mike Bliss and Dave Steele. Hines led all but the first three laps in dominating the “Rich Vogler Classic” presented by J.D. Byrider. He passed Kyle Larson on lap three and led the rest of the way in his Parker Machinery/Turbines, Inc. Spike/Stanton Toyota.
Larson, just like he did in this year’s “Night Before the 500 Classic,” finished second Thursday ahead of Kody Swanson, Kyle Hamilton and Mario Clouser. Clouser led the opening lap of the race and Larson the next two.
