AKRON, Ohio (Sept. 11, 2012) – Donny Schatz won a race and collected two top-five finishes to maintain his advantage in the race for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship as the series raced three times in California.
Schatz finished second to Kyle Larson and fourth to Sean Becker at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and then led all 25 laps on his way to winning at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga. The three finishes left Schatz with 8,210 points. Craig Dollansky is second with 8,160 and Sammy Swindell is third with 8,128.
Goodyear is the Official Tire Supplier for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. The tires the tiremaker provides for the WoO competitors are manufactured at Goodyear’s Innovation Center in Akron, Ohio.
The races at Silver Dollar Speedway constituted the two nights of the 59th Gold Cup Race of Champions. Larson’s win came ahead of Schatz, Becker, Jason Sides and Swindell. Becker won on the second night of the event. Tim Kaeding finished second, followed by Joey Saldana, Schatz and Swindell.
Schatz’ win at Calistoga was his ninth of the 2012 season and gave him six victories in the last 17 WoO races. Kerry Madsen was second, followed by Swindell, Kaeding and Saldana.
