Getting back to action over the weekend in Florida, Lance Dewease kicked action back off on a strong note, but a late race crash led his team to pull out a backup car, and they struggled to dial it in Friday and Saturday night
“We were plenty fast on Friday night, and had a really good car, unfortunately we got in a wreck, and the rest of the weekend we were chasing our back up car,” the Fayetteville, PA driver said.
With 40 cars in the pits on Friday night, Dewease set himself up perfectly with the World of Outlaw format, as he timed the Lelands.com/Conduit Connections/Pasquirellos Auto Shop in 13th fastest, earning a front row heat starting spot.
Picking up his heat win, Dewease advanced to the dash, where he scored a ninth place finish aboard the Penske Racing Shocks/Wings Unlimited/Brown and Miller backed entry, putting him in the fifth row for the 30-lap feature event.
When the race got underway, Dewease got off to a nice start, as he worked up to the seventh spot.
Working through traffic with ease, Dewease looked to bring his Keizer Wheels/DMI/Schoenfeld Headers machine home with a nice finish, but disaster struck on the 22nd lap, as he was involved in a wreck, sidelining him for the rest of the race.
“We had a great car, and were on our way to a nice finish, but unfortunately we had little tangle at the end,” he said.
Bringing out a backup car for Saturday night, the team struggled off the bat, as they chased the car all night long.
Timing in 31st quickest, LD would score an eighth place finish in his heat, and then start ninth in the LCQ.
Though he made some strong laps in the LCQ, he came up just short of transferring into the feature, as he scored a fifth place finish.
Hoping to end his Florida trip on a high note, Dewease again fought his car during qualifications, and ended up 29th quickest, putting him deep in his heat race.
An eighth place finish, again put him in the LCQ, but more issues arose, and Dewease eneded the B with a DNF.
“Saturday and Sunday were tough to stomach, but hopefully we can get back home and get rolling. We had a great car the first three nights in Florida, but the back up car we used the last two had some issues. I have to thank Mike Heffner, and all the guys for their hard work all week.”
