From Williams Grove Speedway
Mechanicsburg, PA — (April 12, 2013) — Cory Haas held off Fred Rahmer to record the fourth 410 sprint feature victory of his career at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking home $3,600 for the win plus $140 in lap money.
In the season opener for the 358 sprints, Austin Hogue of Manchester took over for Austin Reed to record his first ever win in Wiliams Grove history.
Gerard McIntyre Jr. took the lead in the sprint car feature when the first lap was recorded followed by Adam Wilt and sixth starter Haas of York.
On a heavy cushion, Haas became making sweeping tours through the turns, trying to overtake Wilt for second, which he eventually did with six away in the 25-lapper all the while fending off Pat Cannon and a quickening Fred Rahmer.
After that, Haas began a series of sweeping corner swipes at McIntyre for the lead, slinging his No. 11C around the cushion while the leader worked off of the bottom until he was finally able to complete the move upon exiting the second corner to record the 12th circuit as the leader.
Once in front, Haas had to watch on the scoreboard as Rahmer continued his advancement from the 12th starting spot, taking over third on the same lap as Haas took command.
It took Rahmer a few laps to catch and finally dispose of McIntyre on the fast and tacky racing surface and by the time he had taken second, there was just four laps to go.
Though he was continually biting into Haas’ lead, the winner crossed the line out of striking distance of Rahmer.
McIntyre rode home a fine third followed by Brian Montieth and Wilt.
Sixth through 10th went to Brent Marks, Ryan Smith, Cannon, Logan Schuchart and Lance Dewease.
Heats for the 22-car field went to Montieth, Kreitz and Schuchart.
Reed as the leader and Hogue in second battled for control in the 20-lap 358 sprint main from the beginning of the race until the halfway point.
It was on lap 10 that Reed made contact with the inside berm or wall while exiting the second corner that in turn busted the front suspension on his racer, forcing him to take a hard left into the rail while surrendering the lead and win to Hogue.
Tight racing for second with six laps to go saw Mark Smith drive into the spot from fourth when Dale Hammaker and a challenging Kevin Nouse brushed wheels while squeezing each other out of real estate while racing into the first turn.
Nouse recovered for third followed by Tyler Ross and Ryan Wilson.
Sixth through 10th went to Hammaker, Jacob Allen, Eric Tomecek, TJ Stutts and Matt Mountz.
Heats for the 29-car field went to Wilson, Hammaker and Adrian Shaffer with the consolation going to Tim Berkheimer.
