From Port Royal Speedway
The number of reasons why you can’t miss the All Star Sprint Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night is innumerable!
First, there’s the opportunity to see no less than 16 drivers in action that have won an All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car event over the years including Danny “The Dude” Lasoski, Tim Kaeding, Kyle “Young Money” Larson, Jac “The Wild Child” Haudenschild, Doug “The Hammer” Esh, Keith “The Man From Mifflintown” Kauffman, Lance Dewease, Greg Hodnett, “Bad” Chad Layton, Dale “The Lowrider” Blaney, Tim “The Steel City Outlaw” Shaffer, Brad “Sweet Feet” Sweet, Logan Schuchart, Mike Wagner, Danny Holtgraver and Mike Erdley.
That group of drivers alone has amassed some 288 All Stars feature victories not to mention all their other checkers.
And then you have an even dozen number of drivers under the same roof Saturday at Port Royal that have beaten the World of Outlaws in their careers including three that have done it already this season in the form of Lasoski, Kaeding and Larson.
The others include Haudenschild, Esh, Kauffman, Dewease, Hodnett, Layton, Blaney, Shaffer and Sweet.
Then there’s the number of other drivers in the field that have won in a 410 sprint car during their careers that includes but is not limited to Rick Lafferty, Blane Heimbach, Pat Cannon, Ryan Taylor, Justin Henderson, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Cliff Brian.
All of this means that the Port Royal Bob Weikert Memorial sanctioned by the All Stars on Saturday is a must see if you are a sprint car fan anywhere in the east.
The race pays $10,000 to win out of an A Main purse of some $34,000 plus another nearly $4,000 in contingency money that is up for grabs. The feature pays $500 just to start.
Laps pay $100 to lead, heats pay $100 to win in memory of Jere Reigle, fast time is worth $200 and there’s a $100 hard charger award and another $100 for the highest driver in Port Royal points who fails to qualify.
Plus, 20 lucky general admission fans will go home with five-pound boxes of Weikert’s prime beef patties. And the first 200 fans entering the main grandstand will get a free Weikert hat.
Also, five girls and five boys bicycles will be given away to ages 11 and under during the event. Ticket registration will be from 5 – 7 pm behind the main grandstand.
From approximately 5:15 – 6 pm, driver Logan Schuchart, who will be piloting a replica Weikert’s Livestock No. 29 in the event, and his grandfather Bobby Allen will be signing autographs behind the grandstand where the car will also be on display.
Gates open at 5 pm Saturday with time trials slated for 7 pm.
Adult general admission is just $20 for the fantastic affair and students ages 12 – 18 will be admitted for just $5.
