With his early 2013 success at the Silver Dollar Speedway, Willie Croft was looking to have a big weekend at the track as he tallied a 10th place finish during the 23rd Annual Dave Bradway Jr, Memorial on Saturday night.
“Both nights we really had pretty good cars early, but unfortunately both nights they went away towards the end of the night, but we will take a top-10, and keep our eyes on the big picture with the King of the West Series.”
With 41 cars on hand, Croft timed his Tri-C Machine/JRI Shocks/NAAKE backed machine in 10th quickest, putting him in the second heat.
Starting on the front row of his heat, Croft motored away from the field, and won his heat race going away, putting him in the dash, and solidly in the feature event.
Ending up with the six pill in the dash draw, Croft would struggle a bit in the dash, and ended up finishing in the eighth spot, putting him in the fourth row for the 40-lap feature.
“We tried some stuff in the dash since the track was pretty different compared to anything we’ve seen there this year, and we weren’t very good,” he explained.
On the super-slick Silver Dollar Speedway, Croft had a great start, and worked his way up into the fifth spot, as he battled with Kyle Hirst and Jonathan Allard.
As the laps wound down, and a little rubber started to get laid down on the track, Croft’s machine began to get ‘tight’ on him, and he slipped back towards the end of the show.
“We were awesome in the slick, but got caught outside of the rubber, and slipped back,” he said.
When the dust settled, Croft found himself with a 10th place finish.
Friday night, Croft, who is second in championship points at the track, was in action for the weekly show preceding the KWS event.
With 27 cars on hand, Croft opened the night up by timing in seventh fastest.
A third place heat race finish put Croft in the feature event where he lined up in the sixth spot.
Running in the top five early in the feature, Croft’s car went south in a hurry, and he pulled off as it really became a handful.
“Overall it was a decent weekend, but hopefully this coming week we can get back up towards the front.”
