KOKOMO, Ind. (May 20, 2013) – Kokomo Speedway is a special place for Kraig Kinser.
The native Hoosier earned his first career winged sprint car feature victory at the semi-banked, quarter-mile oval, which hosts the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series on Wednesday, June 5.
Kinser, who hails from Bloomington, picked up a thrilling victory in last season’s lone event at Kokomo Speedway. It was his second career win at the track located approximately two hours from his hometown.
“The line usually changes there,” he said. “There really isn’t a key to getting around there. Be patient on the bottom. If it gets around the top, you’ve got to rip around the top.”
Kinser is one of 12 drivers to earn a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory at Kokomo Speedway and he’s one of four to garner multiple wins.
“It’s a tight, small track,” he said. “You’ve got to be comfortable with cars all around you. There’s always a car right there.”
Twenty-time series champion Steve Kinser, who also resides in Bloomington, has a series-best six victories at Kokomo Speedway. Sammy Swindell won three and Stevie Smith claimed back-to-back wins in 1992-93.
Joey Saldana, Craig Dollansky, Dave Blaney, Andy Hillenburg, Danny Lasoski, Joe Gaerte, Bobby Davis Jr. and Jac Haudenschild also have a victory in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series action at Kokomo Speedway.
