Lebanon, IN — (May 22, 2013) — Open wheel racing champions make up the majority of the Rookie Class for the 65th running of the Pay Less Little 500 at Anderson Speedway on Saturday May 25. Bryan Clauson, Bobby East, Jerry Coons Jr and Joe Swanson all bring championship credentials to the Pay Less Little 500 and their attempt to crack into the winner’s circle.
Racing in conjunction with Must See Racing, the 65th pay Less Little 500 marks the USSA Sprint Car Challenge Series Built by the UAW first involvement with the historic race. The Pay Less Little 500 is the Crown Jewel of the USSA Sprint Car Season.
In addition to the rookies, the Pay Less Little 500 veterans will be bring their experience to the table in an attempt to win the world’s toughest sprint car race. Nine time winner Eric Gordon is joined on the list of favorites by Aaron Pierce, Tony Hunt, Russ Gamester, Brian Tyler, Shane Cottle, JoJo Helberg and Dave Darland. Darland, one of the winningest open wheel drivers in the past 20 years, will be making his first Pay Less Little 500 appearance in 12 years. But, with a stellar field of nearly 40 non-wing pavement sprint cars on hand and a 500 mile test in front of them, any one of the 33 drivers making the field has the opportunity to take the win.
The first two questions of the Pay Less Little 500 week will be answered on Thursday – “Who will win the pole?” and “Can any one of the drivers break the magical 10 second lap barrier?” Round 1 qualifying begins at 1:30 on Thursday and concludes at 3:30, setting the fifteen fastest cars for the field.
The Anderson Speedway Spectator Gates open at 4 PM on Saturday May 25, with the Fan Autograph session beginning at 6 PM, Pre-race ceremonies kick-off at 7 PM and the command to start engines will be given at 8 PM. For ticket information, contact Anderson Speedway at 765-642-0206.
