Gregg Powers to Fourth Win of Season

PETERSEN MEDIA

After a disappointing outing at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night, Andy Gregg and his Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing team returned to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night and held off Shane Golobic for the second week in a row to tally his fourth win of the season at his home track.

“We have been rolling around awesome at Placerville all year, and it feels good to get a win and keep it going,” he said. “Shane Golobic and I have had three pretty good races against each other over the last few weeks and he is a fun guy to race with.”

On a day that saw very hot temperatures, 22 cars assembled in the pit area, and Gregg timed in ninth fastest.

Starting in the second row of his heat, Gregg got off to a less than desirable start, as he slipped back to the third spot. Staying in line, Gregg held on to the third spot, transferring to the feature, where he would line up on the front row of the feature event.

When the green light’s flashed on, Gregg jumped out to an early lead, as Golobic was hot on the Placerville, CA driver’s tail.

On the fifth lap, Golobic went to the top in turns one and two to drive past Gregg, but Gregg reclaimed the lead in the next set of corners, as he executed a slide job on Golobic.

Back in front, Gregg continued to show Golobic the way around the high-banked ¼ mile track, as he was able to work to a three-car length advantage.

Golobic would excite the crowd and challenge Gregg late in the race, but Gregg was not to be denied on this night, and scored another win at the speedway.

“I have an awesome group of supporters, as well as my crew in the pits every night,” Gregg said. “Everyone works so hard, it is really a testament to them each time we run well and pick up wins.”

Gregg was in action at the David Tarter Memorial on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway, and he did not quite have the night he had hoped for.

After getting some engine parts flown in at the last minute, Gregg timed his machine in sixth fastest.

A fourth place finish in his heat put him in the feature event, where he lined up in the sixth spot.

Battling inside the top-five, Gregg’s engine temperature continued to rise, and Gregg pulled in late in the feature event.
