Back in action to for the final couple of legs of Lucas Oil ASCS National Speedweek, Matt Covington had an interesting couple of nights as he scored a 10th place finish in Lawton, OK on Wednesday night, before mechanical gremlins forced him into the pits prior to the green flag on Thursday night.
“it has just been on of those years,” he said. “Something good starts to happen, and then bad luck bites us.”
In action at the Lawton Speedway, Covington lined his T&L Foundry/Triple X Chassis/Winters backed entry up in the third row of his heat, and worked his way up to a third place finish, putting him 16th in points, and in the feature event.
Lining up in the eighth row of the feature, Covington continued to show speed, and the ability to pass cars as he has the past few races, and worked himself up to a top-10 finish.
“To move forward with these National guys really shows what our team can do,” he continued. “If we could draw a little better, and start towards the front, we could be contending for wins I feel.”
Moving to Creek County on Thursday night, Covington’s luck looked like it might be changing early in the night as the Glenpool, OK driver scored a heat race win putting his Brodix/C.G. Martin Company/Factor 1 Racing machine in the night’s redraw.
Pulling the one pill, Covington sat on the pole for the 30-lap feature event, but his luck would run out.
Idling around before the feature event, something went south in the engine compartment, and Covington’s night was over, before even taking the green flag.
“Just when it looks like a little luck is on our side, it takes a turn for the worse. I think we had a pretty good shot at Creek County, but it is just one of those deals.” He said.
Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.
