From J&J
McKENZIE, TN – Several J&J Auto Racing teams picked up wins last week at dirt tracks across the country. Tim Shaffer used consistency to capture the All-Stars Ohio Speedweek title.
NOSA Sprint cars
Donny Schatz returned to Norman County Raceway last Thursday and drove his family-owned No. 15 J&J to victory in the NOSA Sprints main event. Schatz, who raced a dirt late model at the 3/8-mile dirt oval the week before, started the main event fourth and raced into the lead quickly. Once in front, he built a commanding lead and won the race by a half a lap, lapping up to sixth place in the process.
UMSS
Lee Grosz drove the Nelson Motorsports #14 J&J to his first UMSS feature in the opener of the Open Wheel Nationals. Grosz led the entire distance from his pole starting spot en route to the $1500 payday.
CAJUN Sprinters Association
Shane Morgan won both his heat race and the feature event Saturday in the CAJUN Sprinters Association at Baton Rouge Raceway. Morgan wheeled his No. 01 J&J from the pole and checked out on the competition. It was his third CAJUN Sprinters Association victory of the season and second at Baton Rouge Raceway.
ALL-STAR Circuit of Champions SPEEDWEEK
Tim Shaffer closed the 2013 Ohio Sprint Speedweek with a fourth-place finish at Fremont Speedway. The driver of the CH Motorsports No. 83 J&J was also the Speedweek champion in 2011.
“Hats off to my team,” said Shaffer. “They did a great job all week and we had consistently good finishes. I just feel like I’m letting them down a little. We have been in position and just didn’t capitalize this week.”
Danny Holtgraver finished third in the Ohio Speedweek points driving the B&R Racing No. 45 J&J.
PA SPEEDWEEK – Big Diamond Speedway
Texas native Sam Hafertepe, Jr. led every lap of Sunday’s Pennsylvania Speedweek main event at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa. Haftertepe, who started the PA Speedweeek with finishes of fourth at Williams Grove and 7th at Lincoln in his family-owned No. 15 J&J, finished second in heat two and earned the pole position. He would lead every lap and earn his first career PA Speedweek triumph.
“Winning here is the hardest thing other than the World of Outlaws,” said Hafertepe, who leads PA Speedweek points after three races. “These guys come to these tracks all the time and to beat them is awesome.”
