In Texas again for a pair of events, Matt Covington turned in quite the weekend as he pocketed his third win of the season on Saturday night at Abilene Speedway, before scoring a second place finish at the Lubbock Speedway on Sunday night.
In Abilene, Texas on Saturday, Covington’s night started off with a third place finish in heat race action from his fourth starting spot, giving him enough points to slip into the evening’s top-eight redraw.
Putting himself on the front row, Covington jumped out to an early lead, and simply dominated all 25 laps.
Out front aboard his T&L Foundry/Triple X/Winters backed No. 95 machine, Covington was never seriously challenged en route to leading all 25 laps, and pocketing his third win of 2013.
Heading to the Lubbock Speedway on Sunday night, Covington again, was very strong.
Starting on the front row of his heat, Covington jumped into the lead, and picked up the win, putting himself in the redraw again.
Pulling the five, Covington lined his Brodix/C.G. Martin Company/Factor 1 Racing machine up in the third row for the 25 lap feature.
Methodically working his way through the field, the Glenpool, OK driver got up into second spot, utilizing a couple of yellow flags.
Working on the race lead, the yellow flag flew with just three laps to go, and Covington’s entry was low on fuel.
Back underway, Covington made a move for the lead, but as he dove low, the engine sputtered as fuel was low, and he quickly dove back in line and secured his second position, where he finished.
“Overall it was a great weekend for our entire team,” Covington said. “We won on Saturday, and had the car to win on Sunday, but we got low on fuel, and just rode the last couple of laps out.”
Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.
2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-35, Wins-3, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-18
