Returning to action with the King of the West Series after several week hiatus, Jonathan Allard continued his strong season with the series as he recorded another top-three finish by way of his third place finish on Saturday night in Fernley, NV.
“The track was pretty tough to work with tonight, but we had a fun race with Tim Kaeding, and Craig Stidham, but unfortunately they got the best of us, but we can’t complain with a third place finish.”
Timing in fourth quickest in time-trials, Allard was able to advance to the second spot from his second row starting spot in heat race action to earn the important berth into the Dash.
Finding himself with the one-pill after the draw, Allard lined up on the front row of the race and proceeded to win, and earn the pole position for the 30-lap feature event.
Lining up on the pole alongside Tim Kaeding, Allard slipped into the second spot heading into the first set of corners, and chased after his rival.
Keeping Kaeding in his sights nearly all night, Allard began feeling pressure from Craig Stidham with about 12 laps to go, as they ran through heavy traffic.
Making a minor mistake in turn three with just 10-to-go, Allard slipped back to the third spot, as he worked relentlessly on Stidham, trying ever so hard to reclaim the second spot.
As the laps clicked off, Allard maintained the third spot, and went on to finish in the show position, cutting into Kyle Hirst’s series point lead with just a few events remaining.
“The guys worked so hard all night, and it’s great to finish on the ‘box’,” he added. “We did not do so hot against the World of Outlaws, so to score our third straight top-three finish is great momentum.”
2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-52, Wins-13, Top 5’s-28, Top 10’s-31.
