Selinsgrove Speedway Titles To Be Decided This Saturday

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Who will be crowned the 2013 Selinsgrove Speedway track champions and take home the gold championship rings from Foss Jewelers?

That will be determined this Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the final points race of the season for the 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners on Foss Jewelers Night.

In the A&A Auto Stores 358 sprint car division, former champion and four-time winner Jason Shultz of Carlisle holds a 115-point lead over eight-time winner and former three-time champion Pat Cannon of Etters.

Cannon will be gunning to become the track’s first-ever four-time 358 sprint car champion. In addition to Cannon, Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove and Chad Layton of Harrisburg are former three-time 358 sprint car champions at the track. Last Saturday night, Cannon became only the third driver to win three consecutive Jim Nace Memorial National Open titles for the 410 sprint cars.

Of the track’s weekly four divisions, only the Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center super late model class is locked up going into this weekend. Jeff Rine of Danville set a new record this year by becoming the speedway’s first-ever nine-time track champion. Rine also set a new record for the most consecutive titles with seven. Rine, a five-time winner this season, has a 425-point lead over four-time winner Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove.

Former three-time pro stock champion Troy Miller of Tower City leads the standings by only 30 points over former champion and five-time feature winner Kyle Bachman of Selinsgrove. Seven-time winner Brad Mitch of McClure is also in contention in the third position, trailing Miller by 110 points.

Seven-time roadrunner feature winner Brian Johnson of Ashland is seeking his first career track championship. Johnson leads the roadrunner standings by 90 points over two-time defending champion and five-time winner Bob Bussey of Northumberland.

Each of the speedway’s divisional track champions will receive a gold championship ring courtesy of Foss Jewelers, located on Route 522 in Selinsgrove. Selinsgrove Raceway Park will be in action two times this coming weekend. On Friday, Sept. 20, the one-fifth mile track will present a program of go kart and micro sprint car racing at 7 p.m. Track gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

Raceway Park will swing back into action at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, with the 7th Annual 270 Micro Sprint Car All Star Championship Race/Roger Spencer Memorial. This year’s 30-lap All Star race will pay $1,000 to win out of a purse totaling more than $5,000. Joining the micro sprint cars Sunday evening will be the slingshots in a national tour event. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
