Perris, CA — (October 16, 2013) — Drivers in the Amsoil USAC National and USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will have some extra dough to shoot for in the 18th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented by All Coast Construction at Perris Auto Speedway on November 1st and 2nd. Due to the generosity of the Wilkerson Family and the Woodland Automotive Display in Paso Robles, the fast qualifier both nights will collect the $600.00 Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award. Advance tickets for the prestigious race, that will also include a separate 360 race on October 31st, are available 24 hours a day online at: http://pas.tix.com/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=7. They can also be purchased by telephone at: 1-800-595-4849.
The award, which is named after the two-time CRA champion (1967 & 1970) and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, was announced Monday by his wife Anne.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, the late driver moved to the San Gabriel Valley with his family when he was two-years-old. After serving in the Navy from 1942 through 1948, Wilkerson began his illustrious racing career in Jalopies in 1949 at Lakeland Stadium in El Monte. From day one he was known as a driver who was always on the throttle.
“Thanks to the Wilkerson family and the Woodland Automotive Display for spicing up the action with such a generous offer to our drivers,” promoter Don Kazarian said on Tuesday. “$600.00 for about 16 seconds is pretty darn good money. Having the award in honor of Billy Wilkerson is very appropriate as he was always on the throttle from the first lap of qualifying through the final lap of the main event.”
