Eaton Rapids, MI — (Monday, October 21, 2013): This Weekend, the 2013 / 2014 Winter Racing Season for the Midwest Indoor Racing Series (MIRS) begins with Practice Day on Friday, October 25th and continues with Race Day on Saturday, October 26th at Perani Arena & Event Center in Flint, Michigan. Headlining the MIRS Winter Season Opener will be the Winged 600 Mini Sprints who will race in the John Belott & Son Auto Purchasing 50.
Also on the card will be the Arena / Mini Cup Cars, Great Lakes Tire Go-Karts, Outlaw Shock Company Quarter Midgets and the always exciting Lawn Mowers divisions. Perani Arena sits in a hot bed of short track racing on the eastside of the state just south of Auto City and Dixie Motor Speedway’s and east of Owosso Speedway for those looking for their winter racing fix.
“We moved the season opener up a week this year so our Quarter Midget teams can come and compete. Last year for the inaugural show, they were unable to race due to conflicting schedules and we want to give these kids every opportunity possible to showcase their talents. ” MIRS Co-Promoter, Scott Menlen remarked.”We’re very excited about heading back to Flint for our second Season Opener. The staff there has Perani improved air quality for us and we’ve worked out an improved pit area for our teams, we can’t wait.” He added.

Longway Boulevard in Flint, Michigan serves as the Host Hotel for the Midwest Indoor Racing Series’ 2013 / 2014 Winter Racing Season Opener. For those who attend Practice Day on Friday, October 25th, Hooter’s Restaurant, located at 3415 Mille Road in Flint, is offering a MIRS special when you buy 10 Wings, you get 10 Wings Free with your Pit Pass or Grandstand Ticket. The same deal will also be available on Saturday, October 26th after the races.
For this event, pit box reservations will be determined by the order pre-registrations are received. Perani Arena & Events Centers’ pit area is one of the smallest on the schedule. So all MIRS Teams who pre-register will have a prominent pit box reserved. On Friday, October 25th, the Pit Gates Open and Registration begins at 2:00pm., as Optional Rotating Practice for all divisions goes from 4:00-8:30pm. The building will close at 9:00am., before reopening on Race Day; Saturday, October 26th at 8:30am. The Grandstands Open at 3:00pm., as Qualifier Heat Races start at 3:15pm. The Autograph Session goes from 6:00-6:45pm., then after Pre-Race Ceremonies / Invocation / National Anthem(s), wall-to-wall Features begin at 7:00pm.
As for Ticket Information, for Friday, October 25th, the Grandstands are Free for patrons to come and watch Practice. Then on Saturday, October 26th, Adults are $12.00 while Veterans & Active Military get in for $10.00. Kids 12 and Under are only 6:00pm. In 2012 at the inaugural race in Flint, on November 3, 2012, a capacity crowd filled Perani Arena as 20 Winged 600 Mini Sprints were in the building as Larry Sroufe set fast time with a 6.872 second lap while Tim Neal was the Inaugural race winner. Scott Quaal claimed the A-Frame Awards Trophy in the Arena / Mini Cup Cars Feature, while Matt Foos, Rick Dukes, Sierra Lantz and Victorya Truemner claimed feature wins in the “Great Lakes Tire” Go-Kart Divisions and it was Matt Kusowski, Kelsey VanEpps and Jayson Mikula winning in the Lawn Mower divisions.
The first half of the 2013 / 2014 Winter Racing Season schedule is set, starting on October 26th with the Season Opener in Flint. The series will then have a month break before resuming battle at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan on Thanksgiving Weekend; Saturday, November 30th. .
The 2013 portion of the schedule will wrap up as it did a year ago, at the Birch Run Expo Center in Birch Run, Michigan on Saturday December 21st while the 2014 part of the schedule resumes on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 back at Kellogg Arena while dates are still being finalized for shows in February and March.
The 2013 / 2014 Winter Racing Season Championships will be at a new facility for the MIRS teams as the Summit Sports & Ice Complex, located southwest of Lansing in Dimondale, Michigan will host Indoor Racing for the first time ever on Saturday, April 5th, 2014. “It’ll be one of the biggest race tracks we compete on during our season,” Added Menlen. “We’re very fortunate to be able to add a new facility to our schedule and really appreciate the folks at Summit Sports and Ice Complex for working with us on this.” He ended.
