LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 3, 2014) – Graves Motorsports has one main objective in 2014: to win a championship.
The team has committed to competing for the ASCS Lone Star Region title and driver Kolt Walker is aiming for his first career series championship.
“I’ve run second in the points,” he said. “Last year we ran third in the points. This year we have our mind set on making a commitment to the full schedule and making a run at the championship.”
Despite missing the first two races of the season last year, Graves Motorsports put together seven top 10s to capture third place in the ASCS Lone Star Region championship standings. That marked the second time Walker has finished on the podium in the points, but he has yet to claim the top prize.
“In 2008 I finished seven points out of first in the ASCS Sooner Region,” he said. “I was ahead for part of the season and he’d get ahead. It was a really close battle.”
The race for this year’s championship begins in less than seven weeks as the ASCS Lone Star opens its schedule along with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour March 21-22 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
“Just being consistent,” Walker said was his mission. “If we’re only good enough to run second, run second. If you’re trying to run for points, being consistent and clicking off top threes or top fives is important.”
