From USCS
Hohenwald, TN — (March 15, 2014) — The 2013 and defending United Sprint Car Series National Champion, Derek Hagar from Marion Arkansas drove his #9Jr. Dynotech powered J&J Auto Racing/R.E. Enterprises sprint car from outside the second row into the www.rockauto.com United Sprint Car Series victory lane at Tennessee National Raceway in the sprint car portion of the USCS “Tennessee 200” on Saturday night. It was Hagar’s twenty-second career USCS sprint car win and again cast him as the favorite to repeat as the series National Champion during the 18th annual United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour National Championship season. It was his second USCS win of the young 2014 season in just two starts.
Hagar spent most of the first half of the race chasing ten time series Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee and K&N Filters Pole Position starter Dalton Davis from Millington, Tennessee. Gray who led the first fifiteen laps looked to be in control of the charge to the www.rockauto.com victory lane until becoming entangled with a lapped car on lap sixteen and spinning only to recover after losing three positions. That incident placed Davis in the lead with Hagar following. After an open red flag on lap 21 for Henry Gustavus’ flip in turn three, Davis assumed the lead looking for his second career USCS win. Hagar was the spoiler and made his winning pass exiting turn four just three laps later and charged to the finish line in first place.
Dalton Davis raced to the line ion the runner-up spot with veteran sprint car racer, Danny smith from Chillicothe, Ohio on the K&N Filters Podium Award thid place. Gray crossed the stripe in fourth place and his team-mate Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee rounded out the top five drivers.
The 2012 USCS National and 2013 USCS mid South regional series Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas led the next group of drivers to the finish line in sixth place. The evening’s Wilwood Disc Brakes “Hard Charger” Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee who started sixteenth on the grid finished in seventh place. Brandon Hanks from Burleson, Tennessee finished in eighth place followed by former series Champion, Eddie Gallagher from Collierville, Tennessee in ninth position and Jerod Roller from Hernando, Mississippi rounded out the top ten drivers.
Danny Smith won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Derek Hagar collected the win in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Dalton Davis garnered the K&N Filters Pole Award after First Heat winner Danny Smith drew a six in the K&N Filters inversion drawing. Anthony Nicholson who advanced the most positions in the main event earned the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hardcharger Award.
