COLLINSVILLE, Okla. (March 18, 2014) – Tyler Thomas was one of the first drivers to test Port City Raceway in a midget.

He and several other competitors were complimentary of the micro sprint track in Tulsa, Okla., last fall, which led to the tight oval being booked this Saturday and Sunday for the Turnpike Challenge with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.

“It wasn’t too much different,” he said. “We’ve got twice as much power. They’ve gotten rid of the infield tires and added a berm to it to try to improve the racing for the midgets. It’s a pretty tight, little track. It’s got a couple of different characteristics where it’s going to be intense and fun to watch.”

Thomas said the track can also be very technical.

“It can be real slick with very little on the bottom and a treacherous cushion,” he added. “We get a little bit of everything when we go there. That’s why it’s so fun.”

Thomas began racing micros in 2008 and spent a lot of weekends competing at Port City Raceway.

“I’ve learned just about everything I know from that race track,” he said. “I’m very excited to go there with the POWRi National Series and run with the best of the best.”
