PARK CITY, Kan. (March 31, 2014) – Danny Lasoski was so close to his first victory of the season last Saturday he could almost taste it.

Lasoski charged from fourth place to win his heat race and he led more than three-quarters of the main event before a flat tire relegated him to a 12 th-place result during the 4th annual Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA at 81 Speedway.

“First off, I want to thank Jeff Whitehead for letting me drive his race car,” he said. “The car was rolling around pretty good.”

After winning his heat race from outside the second row, Lasoski was the high-points driver and earned the pole for the 35-lap main event.

“I saw it was getting spotty rubber in the B Main,” he said. “I told the guys, ‘I’ve been here enough times that I know you have to take care of your tires to be there at the end.’ I wasn’t much over half throttle the whole race. I figured I’d pick the pace up if I needed to and I didn’t need to.”

As the track quickly became covered in rubber, Lasoski maintained the top spot until his right rear tire began to go flat during a caution with approximately eight laps remaining.

“The longer I rolled around I felt it going down,” he said. “I took off and got completely out of the way so no one would run over me.”

After slowing on the restart, the team changed Lasoski’s tire during a caution and he restarted at the tail of the field. Lasoski rebounded to end with a 12th-place finish.

“I’m not saying we would have won,” he said. “I wasn’t going to run hard until there was five laps to go. Everything was going along well until then.”

Lasoski is scheduled to make his season debut for Mark Burch Motorsports during the ASCS Midwest Region season-opening event this Friday and Saturday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. The team has picked up a victory at the high-banked track each of the past two years.
