Clay N.Y. — (April 1, 2014) — In his third season of racing sprint cars, 16-year-old Joe Trenca is set to expand his horizons.
“We’re not running for points this year,” he said. “We’re going to travel a little bit more. We’re going to hit some bigger races.”
Trenca, who was the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Rookie of the Year in 2012, will compete in approximately 40-to-45 races throughout the Northeast with trips to Canada and a first visit to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on the slate.
“We’re going to the Knight Before the Kings Royal and the Kings Royal,” he said. “Our primary class will be 360s and we’ll do five or six 410 races this year.”
In his 11th year of racing, Trenca said his mission is to continue to grow and develop as a competitor. Following success in quarter midgets and micro sprints, Trenca is adapting to sprint cars, which has shifted his goals.
“I’ve always wanted to make it to NASCAR,” he said. “As I started to get better on dirt I realized NASCAR might not be the top goal. I’d like to get a ride with a 410 team soon. Running the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series would be my main goal now.”
Trenca is scheduled to start his season on April 12 at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints. He will then race his 360ci engine against 410s the following day at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, Pa.
