TELFORD, Pa. – April 9, 2014 – The mark of a championship team is how well they bounce back from adversity. For Paul McMahan and his CJB Motorsports team, a pair of events at Calistoga (Calif.) Speedway put this phrase to the test.

“Calistoga was a bit of a speed bump for us,” said McMahan. “Night one was a set back. Thankfully we came back swinging on night two.”

Wide and fast, the half mile located in the very picturesque wine country of Northern California holds a special place in McMahan’s mind. From childhood memories to early career triumphs, Calistoga was a place that the California native was eagerly anticipating.

“We went into Calistoga with a great deal of confidence,” explained McMahan. “We had been doing very well and clicking off great finishes. The first night was just a struggle. We timed in 17th, which is rare for us. Normally we are right near the top of the speed chart. From there, it was just a battle all night and we didn’t do so hot.  You’re going to have those nights, especially when you compete ninety plus times across the country.”

The Barry Jackson led crew re-grouped and tackled the same track the following night. Luckily for the #51 Bairs Tree Service/Nyce, Crete & Landis Block & Concrete/All Star Performance sprinter, lady luck was a bit kinder.

“Night two was quite a bit better,” said McMahan. “It was more of what we were expecting. The track was tricky but we timed in decently and actually made up two spots in the feature. It wasn’t the greatest of nights but it was an awesome rebound from the night before. Barry and the guys did an awesome job getting us turned around. We came out of there with a 18th and a 7th place finish. We’ll take it, get better and move on. Congratulations to Daryn Pittman, Brad Sweet and the entire Kasey Kahne Racing team on sweeping the weekend.”

Only two events remain on the Spring Break tour for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series: the first being at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. and the other being at Perris Auto Speedway.

“The two tracks coming up are a bit different,” said the California native. “Hanford is a bit smaller but is very fun to race on and Perris is a place for speed. I like having them both on the same weekend. I think we’ll do well and get our momentum back. It’s been a great time in California but we’re ready to get back to the Midwest and to the heart of the schedule.”
